NAR Requirements

NAR Triennial Code of Ethics Requirement

Existing REALTOR® members must complete 2.5 hours of ethics training, meeting specific learning objectives and criteria, within three-year cycles in order to maintain REALTOR® membership.

REALTORS® who have joined the association after the NAR Triennial Cycle Date - AND - have completed the required New Member Code of Ethics training, are seen as having fulfilled this training requirement. Members who have not met the Code of Ethics requirement must complete the training by end of the NAR Triennial Cycle date, in order to continue their membership with the Association.

Two options are available for completing Code of Ethics:

  • WBBOR offers in person 3 Hr. CE Code of Ethics classes.
  • The online program offered through NAR can be accessed by clicking here. Login information for the NAR website: Upon applying for membership, you were assigned a National REALTOR® Database System ID. This is commonly referred to as your Membership #/NRDS ID or M1 number. You will need this in order to create an account and register for the online course. This class doesn’t provide continuing education credits.

Fair Housing Training Requirement

REALTORS® are required to complete Fair Housing / Anti-Bias Training upon becoming a member, and every 3 years thereafter, coinciding with the Code of Ethics training timeline. This requirement is in addition to the Code of Ethics training. Qualified training must be of not less than 2 hours of instructional time. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®.

Two options are available for completing Fair Housing Training:

  • WBBOR offers in person 3 Hr. CE Fair Housing class annually.
  • Training may be completed through NAR’s online courses

Failure to complete the required periodic ethics or Fair Housing training shall be considered a violation of membership duties; for which, REALTOR® membership shall be suspended until such time as the required training has been completed.
